Starting a career in counselling involves more than just learning theory and techniques. For student counsellors, personal growth and self-awareness are essential parts of becoming an effective therapist. This post highlights how student counsellors can access personal therapy at a concessionary rate and clarifies the current status of student supervision and student placements within Time2Talk Counselling Services. It also offers guidance on how to make the most of available support and our wide range of blogs during training.

Personal Therapy for Student Counsellors

Personal therapy plays a vital role in the development of student counsellors. It helps build self-awareness, emotional resilience, and empathy; qualities that are crucial when working with clients. Experiencing therapy firsthand allows students to understand the client’s perspective and reflect on their own emotional responses.

Why Personal Therapy Matters

  • Enhances self-understanding

Therapy encourages students to explore their own feelings and patterns, which supports professional growth.

  • Builds emotional resilience

Counselling work can be emotionally demanding. Personal therapy helps students develop coping strategies.

  • Improves therapeutic skills

Experiencing therapy deepens insight into the therapeutic process, improving students’ ability to connect with clients.

Discounted Therapy Offer for Student Counsellors

Recognising the importance of personal therapy, a concessionary £10 discount is available for student counsellors who want to explore this support. This offer makes therapy more accessible during training, encouraging students to prioritise their wellbeing and personal development.

If you are a student counsellor interested in personal therapy, this discount provides a valuable opportunity to experience professional support at a reduced cost. It also reflects a commitment to supporting the next generation of therapists in their personal and professional development. As a previous counselling lecturer, I thoroughly enjoy supporting the personal growth and development of the next generation of therapists.

Current Status of Student Placements

Student placements are a key part of many counselling training programs, providing practical experience under supervision. At this time, however, student placements are not offered at Time2Talk. Students are encouraged to explore placements through their training institutions. Joining counselling groups or forums can provide peer support and networking opportunities during this period.
